The One With All the Red Flags and Damage Control

As Jasmine's Journey continues in Jamaica...
  • Jasmine has learned to let herself go, to open herself up to everybody. She says every decision she makes brings her one step closer to finding her man.
  • Kyle wants to solidify the connection he is now feeling with Jasmine
  • David wants a date so the other guys will stop calling him "Dateless Dave." [So we're pretty sure he will get one.]
  • Chris will be extremely shocked if he doesn't get a date. [So we're pretty sure he won't get one.]

Amazing Race Canada 4 Preview of Episode 3: "Toads! Are You Kidding Me?"

What's that I hear? Oh! Could that monotonous drone be the sound of people complaining about teams leaving Canada? Again? Maybe you are one of those complaining that Canada and Vietnam don't have a history or connection. Well, if that's the case, you get an F-minus in History. So, your assignment this week is to find three points and/or events which connect Canada to Vietnam. Go now. GO!

Meanwhile, for the rest of you... There are spoilers here. Proceed with CAUTION. Or don't.

Amazing Race Canada 3, Episode 3 "I Said Straight, You Gorilla!" ...OR... Hoppy, Hoppy. Joy, Joy!

I can usually tell from the title if I am going to like an episode, so that's why I was particularly excited to watch this one. I kind of had an inkling this would be a Nick and Matt quote, because it reminded me of one of my favourite TAR teams, Kevin and Drew from the very first season. Not that I am comparing these two teams. Shhh! Don't tell anyone, but I think I may end up liking the Wrestlers more than Mickey and Pete, More than Kevin and Drew, and do I dare say...even more than Jet and Dave?

The ten remaining teams have another early morning start from Cerro San Cristobal. They must make their way to Buenos Aires and find the Totem Pole in Plaza Canada. They will get their next clue after reading the plaque and learning the story of the Totem. Here are the start times, which again this week are meaningless because they will all be on the same flight:

Hamilton and Michaelia   3:46 A.M.
Brian and Cynthia   4:37
Nick and Matt   4:38
Nic and Sabrina   5:06
Dujean and Leilani   5:13
Neil and Kristen   5:33
Dana and Amanda   5:34
Brent and Sean   5:37
Simi and Ope   5:51
Gino and Jesse   6:07 A.M.

And of course there is the question of that second Express Pass that Hamilton and Michaelia must hand over to another team before the end of Leg 4. (Hamilton & Michaelia have already used their pass!) Hmmn, who will it be, I wonder? Kristen makes a play for it at the airport, but the couple gives an ITM saying they will give it t a team who helps them out. Talk about fore-shadowing! Something's up with that.

This is obviously the Canadian Embassy in Buenos Aires.
Simi & Ope and Gino & Jesse find trouble right away. They get lost, thanks to their cab drivers [Those damn, pesky cabbies!] and they all wind up at the Canadian Embassy. Meanwhile, everyone else is learning why an Aboriginal Canadian Totem is in the middle of a park in Buenos Aires. Carved by Stan Hunt from a single Red Cedar log, the Totem is a symbol of the rich heritage shared by the Aboriginal peoples of Canada and Argentina.

The clue received here directs them to Barrio La Boca and a Roadblock called, "Who can do things to the letter?" and it's not just any Roadblock.

It's a Mentos Roadblock!!!

Oh no...remember that particularly nasty one in Paris last year? Yep. This one requires one person from each team to find 3 kiosks and buy specially-marked packages of Mentos. They are then given clues and must use the Mentos (each candy is printed with a letter) to spell out the names of four famous Argentinians. Here are the clues:

1. Argentina's most famous First Lady.
2. First Pope from the Americas.
3. La Boca's favourite footballer.
4. The King of Tango.

The answers: Eva Peron; Pope Francis; Diego Maradona; and Carlos Gardel.

Mind your Ps and Ds!!!
Of course, the first two clues are pretty easy and as Sabrina puts it, "If you don't know who Pope Francis is, read a book." But most team members had to run around and ask the locals for the answers to 3 and 4.  Sabrina only had to ask for the last answer. Several people started working in pairs, realizing there are some times when this is necessary. However, when Hamilton shows up, he finds he must work alone. He tries to ask Neil and Cynthia (who have teamed up), but they won't volunteer any information. Can't blame them. They've been there a while working through the task. After all, working together is a lot different than just giving someone an answer. BUT...I guess they kind of forgot Hamilton and Michaelia have that Express Pass burning a hole in their backpacks. Oopsie. I guess we know who's NOT getting it now. Nick and Dana, also working together, have trouble finding the 3 kiosks selling the Mentos they need.

Meanwhile, Sabrina is having a hard time. She can't seem to find 3 "d"s to complete Diego Maradona and Carlos Gardel. The thing is, all the letters are lower case. She eventually figures out the letter she thought was "p", was really a "d". It seems to me this task would have been more appropriate with a vintage printing press involved, instead of Mentos...just like the old saying, "mind your 'p's and 'q's!"

The next task takes place at Futbol Madero. That's right, it's a soccer challenge and perfect for Nic and Sabrina who are currently in first place. Nic used to be a professional player. So this should be no problem for the couple, right? Nic boasts that they will be out of there in 10 seconds. Well, NOTHING on this show is going to be THAT easy, and in this task, one team member must guide the soccer ball through a pylon course then score on the net...BLINDFOLDED, and guided by instructions from their partner. And to make it even more difficult, they must complete it under one minute.

Nic and Sabrina are at it for two hours, falling prey to the old jinx on tasks based on your profession or talent. Sabrina tells the others that even professionals would find it hard. Of course they would, because it's really not about soccer skills at all. It's about communication. You know, like knowing left from right and letting your partner know where the frigging net is. And then we hear it..."I said straight, you gorilla!" Sure enough, It was the Wrestlers! Neil and Kristen work their directions like a clock, and they are the first to complete the task. Frustrated and now in a state of panic, Nic and Sabrina decide to forfeit this task and take the 2 hour penalty. Wow. All this task needed was a little, good old-fashioned thinking outside of the box and after the couple leave, the other Nick opens that box. He grabs the ball between his feet and hops with it through the course. Soon everyone follows suit. The last teams remaining here are Brent & Sean and Dana & Amanda.

The cluebox for the next task is at the Obelisco de Buenos Aires. This is a Detour called "Dance or Dine". "Dance" is pretty much what it says it is. Teams must learn to do the Tango at the Confiteria Ideal. It seems the random shots of a dancing couple we've been seeing throughout the episode finally have a meaning. In "Dine", one team member must take orders from 3 restaurant patrons while their partner plates the meals. Each order is a combination of 3 items out of a 12 item menu. This would be a simple memorization task if it weren't for the fact that it was all in Spanish. Oh and one more thing. Each side of the Detour is limited stations, meaning there are only six slots available for the teams. Unless you are good at memorization and know Spanish, for the most part you will want to do the Tango.

At Dance: Neil & Kristen; Gino & Jesse; Nick & Matt; Brian & Cynthia; Hamilton & Michaelia; and Dujean & Leilani. The other 4 teams do Dine. At one point, Simi & Ope try to switch from Dine to Dance, only to find out the 6 slots were full. They have to go back and finish. Nic and Sabrina finish it first and head off to the Pitstop at Puerto Madero. Of course there's that 2 hour penalty and they are made to sit there and watch the other teams come in.

It's Neil and Kristen who win this leg. When they hit the mat, Jon tells them they are the second team to arrive, then continues with, "However." Kristen looks scared, as in what-did-we-do-wrong? type of scared. Then he tells them they won. The reaction was great. The father/daughter team win 2 return tickets to Beijing and 6 months of free gas from Petro Canada.

Sadly, Newfoundland's own Dana and Amanda are the last to arrive at the mat and are eliminated. To see how other teams finished, check out my Leg by Leg Results HERE

Next week, the nine remaining teams travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and it looks to be another wild ride. I know we are only 3 legs in, but so far I am enjoying this season. The teams are well matched and we've had a different team win each leg.

Amazing Race Canada 3 Preview of Episode 3 "I Said Straight, You Gorilla!"

Don't you love that title? It's pretty close to TAR season 1's Kevin and Drew - remember, "Swing you fat bastard. Swing!"?

BBCan3 Recap Episode 3 - Week 2 HoH - This Ain't No Sound and Light Show.

The game continues...

I mean...come on.
Not all HoH comps are created equal. This one, called "Wall to Wall" is one of those - it's an endurance test. Endurance tests usually favour the strong, small types. Usually. But, just as I called it last Wednesday, this one is geared to people with, oh...I don't know...maybe some rock climbing expertise. And lucky for Big Brother, we just happen to have one HG with those creds. Enter Bobby. I guess BB has pegged you as the lucky winner of the first HoH comp. The one nobody wants. The one everybody wants to throw. (I am sure Bobby wanted to throw it as well. He just couldn't avoid it.)

Recap of MasterChef Canada Episode 203 "Constant Cravings" OR The First Mystery Box Challenge is Brought to You By....

Here we go. It's the first Mystery Box Challenge of season two. Sounds exciting, no? No, not really.

The Phyllo with no name. Who made you, poor Phyllo?
The first Mystery box contains standard fare: phyllo, pineapple, maple syrup, peppers, berries, walnuts, kale and "one succulent
pork chop". Meh. Oh, I forgot the cream cheese. How could I miss the obvious sponsor? The first Mystery Box is brought to you by Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese. Duh. I can also tell the phyllo was not made by a sponsor because it just gets a miserable typed label. It could have come from anywhere.

Recap of The Bachelor Canada 2 Episode 3: The one where the crazy bitch goes to the Bachelor's room.

Tim and his 12 remaining prospective Mrs. Timbits travel to Los Cabos, Mexico where they get to stay at the Hyatt Ziva. The filming annoyed a lot of tourists who thought they were going to have a nice, quiet vacation. Apparently the girls spent most of their time in the cabana, while the film crew spent most of their time keeping curious onlookers away. The tweets that came out were hilarious. Some people thought it was exciting, some complained of the noise and inconvenience and some thought the guy looked like a douche.

Recap of Episode 3 "Snakes and Liars" Amazing Race Canada 2

Snakes and Liars. Where's the snake and who is this liar? There are actually lots of snakes with 2 liars in a doorway.

The teams set out from Tofino full of excitement as they open their first clue to find out they
Jinder is overstimulated. Again.
are on their way to Hong Kong. Jinder - who seems to have just got over his excitement of being on the Amazing Race Canada, now has to deal with the fact they are on their way to China. He's so excited he has to stop to tell the cameraman. I would tell him he needs to calm down, but he is way too fun to watch. They must make their way to the Tian Tan Buddha perched high atop a peak on Lantau Island and are given $440 spending money for this leg on their Scotia Bank card.

Preview of Episode 3 "Snakes and Liars" Amazing Race Canada 2 Goes to Hong Kong!!!

Well, well, well. What do we have here? Hong Kong, you say? That ain't no downtown Regina, that's for sure. The title is rather ominous ad makes me wonder who this liar is and what could they possibly lie about? But the most important question is, do they have any Timmies in Hong Kong?

***Danger, Danger, Danger***
There are spoilers here...obviously!!! So only click if you want to know. Duh!

MasterChef Canada Episode 3 "First Kick at the Box" OR The Smelt Quiche Smelt

The home chefs are introduced to "The Shiny Perfect Place." That's how they describe the MasterChef Canada Kitchen when they first see it. Yes, it was shiny and perfect, but not for long. A big mess was soon to be made. Their first Mystery Box was sitting there just waiting for them, like the proverbial Pandora's Box. Everyone wondered what was underneath. Maybe it was more like the crate that covered the Lost Ark in Raiders, with all kinds of evil trying to burn it's way out.

But when it was finally revealed, it turned out to be pretty standard fare: pork tenderloin; honey; chocolate; chili pepper; strawberries; banana; and peanut butter - smooth and chunky. Not just any peanut butter either. Bonacini called it the finest. It was Kraft. Ah, they just had to give the nod to the major sponsor, didn't they? The home chefs had 60 minutes to prepare either a sweet or savoury restaurant-quality dish. Quite frankly, these ingredients were a gift. So the real challenge was in how they were combined to create balance. And presentation of course. Don't forget presentation.

The judges called up 3 home cooks they thought were the best:

Carly: Spicy Peanut Soup with Pork and Noodles
Eric: Peanut Butter Fruit Tart with Strawberries and Chocolate
Marida: Pork and Noodle Stir Fry with Peanut Vinigrette

The judges declared Marida the winner of the first Mystery Box Challenge. Not only was she safe from elimination this week, but she was brought into the Pantry where the judges presented her with a choice for the main ingredient in the Elimination Challenge. There was a theme to the 3 choices - they were ingredients taken from "Canadian land, seas and air". Just another way of saying meat, fish or fowl. Leung offered smelt, Bonacini revealed venison, and Aprile's choice was duck. The smart move to really trip up the other contestants would of course been the smelt, and that's exactly what Marida picked. There was one more surprise for Marida. She could choose another home chef to be safe from elimination, and she picked Brooke. Of course Brooke thought it was because they were friends, but Marida revealed that she did not see Brooke as a threat. Brooke could be dealt with later.

Once again, the home chefs are given 60 minutes to prepare a restaurant quality dish. Ben questions the pronunciation of the aptly named smelt, and even adds a "ch" - like schmelt. Maybe he was thinking of Smaug in the Hobbit. Meanwhile, the judges discuss the pros and cons of smelt. There is not a lot of flavour in smelt apparently, so the best way to serve it is breaded or floured, and then fried. The trick is to make it restaurant quality, so presentation is exceptionally important. The judges call up an assortment of home chefs to taste and critique their dishes.

Eric and Tammara are praised, although Tammara is told to stop preparing Asian dishes. Next up is Danny who decided to puree the smelt to make croquettes. Way wrong choice. Mr. Overly-Dramatic a.k.a. Alvin Leung explodes with "This is MasterChef Canada. You give me this?" Oh, oh. Since we were promised a surprise elimination in the preview, it's not looking good for poor Danny. Time for a commercial. When we return, the scolding is repeated, then Danny is told to go back to his station.

Dale does well. Time for another disaster dish. This time it's Meaghan's smelt quiche. Smelt quiche? What? Yep. The judges reaction? It was "Smelly. And not in a good way". I guess you could say the smelt quiche smelt. As for presentation - well let's just say the judges were dumbfounded that the whole quiche was simply put on a plate which was just slightly larger than the quiche itself. No garnish. Nothing. Just a large quiche pie sitting on the plate staring up at them.

Pino created a dish that the judges enjoyed. Next up were two more disasters from Kaila and Ben. Kaila made a hot mess with a scotch bonnet pepper, while Ben's garnish was called compost.

The there was good news and bad news. The judges announced the two best dishes were made by Dale and Pino, who were then named captains in the first team challenge (in the next episode). The bad news is the bottom 3 were Danny, Meaghan and Ben. Ben is asked to take off his apron and leave the kitchen. More bad news. There is another elimination - Meaghan. Danny is safe...for now.

My choices this week: Eric, Dale, Pino and Marida are the rising stars. Kaila and Danny need to shape up.

This week there was tension between Kaila and Brooke. Next week, a little snit develops between Kaila and Dale. My money is on Dale. They are really trying to portray Kaila as this season's bitch, aren't they? It's only the third episode, and I can't tell you how many times they have zoomed in on Kaila's wide, glaring eyes, making her look completely stunned. Not a good look for her. The preview for the next Monday's episode, called "The Puck Drops Here" shows the Team Challenge that Dale and Pino will captain. They get to prepare lunch for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Yay!!!

The Amazing Race Canada Recap of Episode 3: Hoodoos and Hoodonts OR Jet and Dave vs.'Anderson Cooper' and 'Mr. Mustache'

Tough challenges this week. I mean tough. The kind we are used to in The Amazing Race. But you know what they say don't you? If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. Alberta, that is.

The teams start off from the Vancouver Convention Centre with the following start order and times:

Holly and Brett, 3:57 a.m.
Hal and Joanne 4:12 a.m.
Jody and Cory 4:51 a.m.
Darren and Kristen 4:58
Vanessa and Celina 5:23 a.m.
Tim and Tim 5:44 a.m.
Jet and Dave 5:45 a.m. "Nice guys finish last"

The first clue instructs them to fly to Calgary, Alberta, but they must first stop at the Internet Cafe to book their flight. Holly & Brett, Hal & Joanne, Jody & Cory, and Darren & Kristen book the 7:00 a.m. flight. The other 3 teams book the 8:00 a.m. flight. When Vanessa and Celina check-in at the airport, they switch their tickets to the 7 a.m. flight. Hey! Looks like the girls are learning a few tricks from the older teams. Way to go! Then we see something kind of pointless. Holly and Brett go to the Hudson News stand, gather up all the Calgary and Alberta maps and tuck them away where none of the other teams could find them. Lame. Fact of the matter is, this isn't the only news stand at Vancouver airport. And where was the sales clerk? It just seems like a sign of stress when a team tries to sabotage the others like this. In fact, it's not a good sign at all. Jody and Cory notice the lack of any maps they need, "I bet somebody bought all the maps...sneaky pricks".

On the flight, Darren and Kristen decide to give the second Express Pass to Vanessa and Celina, and not to Holly and Brett as was their agreement. Oh oh. Were they right to do this? You bet. Why the frick would you give it to a strong team...a team that likes to sabotage and play dirty? Give it to a weaker team. Guess they'll just have some explaining to do with the Docs later.

The Route Marker is in downtown Calgary at a bull sculpture in Fifth Avenue Place. This isn't just any bull. It's 'Outlaw', a famous bull in these parts. Apparently Outlaw disposed of a record number of cowboys, 57 to be exact, before it was finally broken.  Can't help but think of Jamie and Pierre last week when they said "You don't get off the bull halfway through the ride". Sob. Kind of ironic. Yeah I miss them. They would have done so well on this leg. Anyway, the clue instructs them to go to Ranchman's Cookhouse and Dancehall. Now, with a name like that, wouldn't you suspect what the Roadblock was? Yep. Line dancing.

Line dancing separated the men from the boys, so to speak. Brought out the best in some teams, the worst in others, and frustrated everyone. It all came down to how everyone handled the frustration. Here's a breakdown of the teams' experiences:

Hal and Joanne: Joanne did the dancing, and nailed it after only 3 attempts. Hal couldn't stop gushing over how good Joanne looked. They left in first place.
Jody and Cory: Jody did this one, "I can handle that, even with carbon-fibre feet. No way I'm getting those (cowboy) boots on". He got it on his 6th attempt. But they were there 3 hours. When the judge approved his dance, everybody cheered.
Holly and Brett: Holly danced, got very frustrated. It took her 8 tries before she could get the next clue from the judge.
Darren and Kristen: Darren nailed it after 3 attempts. But it still looked kind of awkward. Almost as awkward as Kristen pulling Brett aside to explain about the Express pass. Brett gave her a crappy lecture on the integrity of doctors, in such a way to seem like they are sooo much better than everyone else. Naturally, this only made Kristen want to damage his head severely. Can't blame her, considering the fact that Brett wasn't exactly showing integrity when he hid those maps back in Vancouver.
Vanessa and Celina: Vanessa danced. She got a bit frustrated and asked "Why can't it be hip-hop?" Umm, maybe because cowboys in these parts wouldn't even know what you're talking about. She got it after 3 attempts.
Tim and Tim: It was Tim Sr. who took this one. Perhaps a bad choice, it took him 9 attempts. They left in last place, but never gave up.
Jet and Dave: Dave danced because he is a two-time National Champion...in cheerleading. He explains that his role is chucking girls. "I throw them, and I catch them". Dave responds with, "That'll come in handy". Dave got it on his 3rd try, but not after a few comments about the judge. "Anderson Cooper is so hard core". Yeah, the judge did look like him. When Dave won the clue, there was much rejoicing. Dave twirled a girl. Jet twirled a girl. Dave twirled Jet. Dave twirled Anderson Cooper.

One thing is for sure. None of those teams could get that country song out of their heads for several days. Even Vanessa was singing along. The clue 'Anderson Cooper' gave the teams directed them out to the Hoodoos in the Badlands. The next challenge is a Detour called Lump by Lump OR Bone by Bone. Very self-explanatory. Lump by Lump was filling a coal car at the Atlas Coal Mines National Historic site. The judge here is in period costume and sports a lovely curled mustache. Bone by Bone is at the Royal Tyrrell Museum and involves building a dinosaur model to the satisfaction of the judge, who is a 'real-life' Paleontologist. Wow a real Paleontologist at a real Paleontological museum. Imagine that. And just as I suspected, the only team to take on the dino challenge was Holly and Brett, who believed that parts are parts. After all, ribs are ribs and vertebrae are vertebrae, right? HAH!

Hal and Joanne fill the cart in no time flat, but not before Joanne takes note of what a great workout it was. "No wonder coal miners were in such great shape". Well, yeah, if you don't take into account all the coal dust they inhaled, bad diets and having to worry about the threat of cave-ins. Once again, Jet and Dave give us some comedic relief. Of course they filled the bins easily, but couldn't understand why the judge wouldn't approve of their work. Seems they forgot about moving the little tag over to a hook at the side of the car. "In Ontario, they would have welcomed this with open arms. But he didn't like it. No dice. You want some more coal? We'll give you some more coal. Here it is. I'll pour it all on...He thinks we're going to go do dinosaurs. Well, Mr. Mustache, ...we...are tough. We'll fill another one, for fun." Gosh, who doesn't love these guys? They finally figure out the problem and move the little tag thing. They let Vanessa and Celina know about the tag. The girls, meanwhile are having a hard time, start picking up big chunks and carry them, and consider using the Express Pass. They ask the judge several times if it was good enough...even when the car was no where near full. Maybe they were hoping Mr. Mustache would cut two wee girls a break. Hah! Jody & Cory, Darren & Kristen and the Tims (who are at this point tied for last with the Docs) also do the coal challenge.

Meanwhile, Holly and Brett are getting frustrated with the bones. Lets face the facts. They should have been able to do this with ease. Parts are parts. They may be a bit different, but the Docs should have been able to notice those differences and laid out those bones. It wasn't like it was a T-rex. They didn't have to use a crane to lift a 6-foot head. It was about the size of a dog - just like Dino in the Flintstones. But the Paleontologist denied their first attempt and the Docs had to go take a second look at the model. I think it was just anxiety that did them in. That and Brett constantly telling Holly to relax, when it was Brett who was all jittery. Yeah, that really helps. She just spent a couple of hours trying to learn a line dance while you were vowing revenge on Kristen. You don't calm down a person by telling them to calm down!!! Jeez.

It's a race to the Pitstop at Horse Thief Canyon between the Tims and the Docs, but the Tims get lost. Holy crap. Monty is waiting at the mat in his best neo-western garb, looking smashing I might add, alongside a cowboy with his horse, of course. Here's the final standings:

1st: Hal and Joanne. These guys are so impressive. Not only do they handle the stress, but Hal even finds time to tell Joanne how good she looks. Love it. Will anything take them down, or will they just run out of steam?
2nd: Kristen and Darren. Another team that is consistently near the top. For now.
3rd: Jet and Dave. From last to third. Not bad. I love their humour, ...I just think they dawdle a bit too much. But their learning curve is improving.
4th: Vanessa and Celina. Another team who is learning the ropes. They lucked into the Express Pass - lets just hope they don't push their luck, and try a few dirty plays of their own.
5th: Jody and Cory. Very impressive. Talk about bravery! Bravery is completing a line dance with carbon-fibre feet and no ankles. Not to mention Cory, who was brave enough to let his bro do it.
6th: Holly and Brett. I think frustration, and thinking about revenge on the Hippies, did these two in on this leg. Brett needs to learn a lesson from Hal and tell his wife how good she looks all sweaty in cowboy boots.
7th: Tim Sr. and Tim Jr. They just need to think things through before they jump into things. The non-elimination saved them. They must complete a Speed Bump on the next leg. Oh but don't worry - these two are going to be fine. They won't be the next team to be eliminated.

Check back later in the week, I will post a preview for Episode 4, and maybe... a clue as to where that final finish line is. Maybe I will make a game of it.

The Amazing Race Canada Preview of Episode 3 "Hoodoos and Hoodonts"

Here's what you're going to see when Amazing Race Canada visits Alberta.

Holly and Brett buy out all the maps for Calgary and Alberta (at the Hudson News Store) at Vancouver airport, in an attempt to sabotage the other teams. Jody and Cory notice the lack of Alberta maps, "I bet someone bought all the Calgary maps...the pricks." Why did Holly and Brett do this? It would be a big bite out of the allowance for this leg. Keep reading to find out why I think they did this.

There is a Route Marker at Fifth Avenue Place in front of the bull sculpture at the Stock Exchange Building. Holly and Brett may be up to more shenanigans here, "steering" other teams to the wrong place.

The Roadblock at Ranchman's Cookhouse and Dancehall. Looks like one member from each team must learn a line dance. We get glimpses of Joanne, Holly, Jody, Vanessa, and Darren, wearing cowboy hats, boots and shirts, learning the steps by watching the real dancers. There are also shots of Tim Sr. and Dave, but not sure if they were the ones in their teams doing the dancing. Everyone has a bit of trouble...they find out it's not as easy as it looks. Too bad the cowboys were eliminated in the last leg...they would have rocked this.

If they don't stop here, I'm going to be disappointed. (see note 1)
The teams then head to Drumheller. I am kind of hoping that the world's biggest T-rex sculpture is a Route Marker. Didn't Jon Montgomery say there would be a lot of roadside attractions? If not, I will be disappointed. Do you know you can climb up inside that thing - there's an observation platform in it's mouth. The Detour is out in the Badlands, outside of Drumheller. Hence the "hoodoo" (tower-shaped rock formations) reference in the title. The Detour is a choice between "Lump by Lump" OR "Bone by Bone". For Bone by Bone, teams must build an entire dinosaur skeleton. Sorry, I don't know the exact location of this challenge. But, being doctors, I imagine Holly and Brett took this one. Yes, I know dino bones aren't human bones, but parts are parts, and they would feel more comfortable with this then schlepping coal around. Lump by Lump is at the Atlas Coal Mines National Historic Site, and teams must fill a coal car. We get another taste of Jet and Dave and their comic relief. Apparently the judge, in period costume and sporting a typical curly mustache, tells the guys it's not good enough. They then refer to him as Mr. Mustache. "He thinks we're going to do dinosaurs. Well, Mr. Mustache,...we are tough. We'll fill another one, just for fun."

The Tims fill wheelbarrows, then lift them up and dump them into the coal car. Vanessa and Celina are there at the same time as Jet and Dave. The girls eventually give up on the shovel and try to carry coal in their arms. They weren't the only ones - Jody and Cory start carrying LARGE blocks of coal, presumably to fill the car quicker. Guess they take the "lump by lump" seriously. Either Vanessa or Celina say, "should we use the Express Pass?" Aha! Soooo...there it is. The dinosaur in the room. It looks like Kristen and Darren gave the girls that second pass. If you remember, Kristen & Darren, Holly & Brett, Vanessa & Celina and Hal & Joanne made that little pact on that first night in Kelowna - that if any of them came in first, they would give the 2nd pass to the team among them who came in second. It was Holly and Brett who came in second. Apparently the Hippies didn't want to give the pass to such a strong team as the Doctors, so they gave it to the girls, whom they must see as less of a threat. This must have pissed Holly and Brett off big time, and I kind of think this is the reason for all the dirty play.

This should be a non-elimination leg, but remember, whoever comes in last will have to perform a Speed Bump challenge at some point in the next leg...and the next leg goes to Yellowknife, NWT.

Big Brother Canada Recap of Week 2

Episode 3: Sunday, March 3, 2013 - "Slop is Not Fun"

The HOH competition proves that yoga is an endurance sport. Apparently Jillian does yoga and it has paid off for her...she has "strong legs". At the end, its between her and Talla. Talla asks Jillian if she would be her target, and Jillian tells her she is safe and that "I never go back on my word". We'll see how long Jillian can keep up such high morals. Talla eliminates herself and Jillian wins HOH.

The first have-not competition, called "Batter Up", begins with Jillian dressed as a big fried egg. Pretty. The HGs divide up into groups of 4 with Suzette sitting it out. Thank God. They have to fill a giant waffle iron with batter. Do they use giant ladles? Oh no...they have to jump into a giant vat of batter and their teammates have to scrape the batter onto the griddle. I think everyone was thankful Suzette wasn't playing. Hey, maybe they thought any team with her on it would have an unfair advantage. The green team loses - Alec, Tom, Talla and Peter get to eat slop for a week and stay in the seedy motel themed Have-Not Room. Peter calls the room "magical", sarcastically of course. Talla says slop is "not fun". Thank you Miss Obvious.

Everyone starts campaigning their own strategy with Jillian about who to nominate. The major play is by Aneal - he tries to plant mistrust of Tom in Jillian's head. He tells her Tom is in a secret guy's alliance with Emmett, Peter and Alec, and that each of them "have a girl attached to them", so that they will have a majority vote. Her interest is peaked, but the guys get to her and turn the tables on Aneal. Jillian ends up nominating Gary and Aneal. She explains: Gary, because he is a very strong, social player; and Aneal because she "has learned a lot about him" and "he is the best nomination for the house".

Spoiler: Gary will win POV and save himself....Jillian will put up Danielle for the replacement nominee.

Episode 4: Wednesday March 6, 2013 - "Showmance vs. Bromance"

After the Nomination Ceremony: Gary Glitter calls Jillian a ___ bitch in the Diary Room, then looks for his veil (which is really just a flimsy sweater). He says he is going to play the game with glitter on his back. I think he has glitter on his brain. A condition that can be cured by modern medicine. Wasn't there a telethon for it? He should see a doctor. Meanwhile, Aneal is very upset. He immediately goes to Jillian after he was nominated for eviction. He starts whining and crying..."if only it was anybody else but you...wah wah...I don't even like to talk to anybody else in the house". But he tells us in the DR confession that the crying is just strategy to gain sympathy. He starts crying to everyone. Keep it up Aneal...I would vote you out just because of your bad acting skills.

Apparently, Emmett and Jillian upped their showmance as soon as Jillian became HOH. Sounds fishy on Emmett's part, kind of opportunistic.

Funniest sequence in the episode happens when Peter heads to the Diary Room - in the hall he hears a voice coming from the funky moose head. Marsha is painted white and has gold glitter antlers. Oh my god, Gary would be so jealous. Marsha the Moose gives Peter a reward challenge. There are 3 quotes on cards which he must work into conversations with the other HGs. If anyone questions what he's talking about, he fails. As Peter goes to fetch the cards, Marsha says, "Hey Peter...what does the rest of the house look like?" The first quote is: "I have a rash in a really awkward place". Peter says this to Talla (as a possible reaction to the slop), who now thinks Peter's balls are inflamed. Great. She offers him an ointment. The second one is: "A woman knows the face of the man she loves as a sailor knows the open seas". Liza buys it. Maybe she was just being polite. Arrr me matey. The last one is: "The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool". He tries that one with AJ, but flubs it. Then he tries it with Andrew. Success. Peter goes to Marsha who tells him the reward will come later - is the Moose just screwing with him? Oh and he is never to speak of her. Marsha also tells Peter he's cute. peter says he likes Marsha. Hey maybe Peter and Marsha will develop their own showmance. I hope we see more of Marsha.

Okay maybe that wasn't the funniest thing. What was really hilarious was Jillian confessing that she resisted kissing Emmett, because friends and family were watching. Hmmm. But apparently she didn't have any trouble screwing under the sheets or in the shower. She does know she's on Big Brother and not The Bachelor, right? Or is her favorite movie Pretty Woman - where Julia Roberts plays a hooker who won't kiss her clients? She does know there are about a million cameras in there, right? What a dumbass. Not to mention the fact that she's an Elementary School teacher. Nice example for the kiddies there Jillian. Good luck with future career options.

POV Competition. Gary Glitter readies himself with what else? Why glitter of course. Ah, the magic of glitter. He's "feeling blue glitter energy". He puts on warpaint. If only William Wallace had blue glitter, maybe he would have defeated the English instead of being dismembered and having his body parts spread all over the country. Well maybe there is something to it, because Gary wins.

There's a birthday party for Alec. It's not his birthday...it's a prank he and Peter have devised. Alec reveals his bromance/alliance since day 1 with Peter. As Alec says, "bromance before showmance" (refering to Topaz). Very interesting. He says he and Peter are the smartest people there. True so far. But what of Marsha, Peter?

Jillian talks to some of the girls, asking their opinion on who to put up as replacement nominee, a ploy to get someone, namely Danielle, to volunteer. Danielle volunteers. Tom mentions to Emmett that eventually he will have to drop Jillian..."Emmett's an honest person as long as he's thinking with the right head". Jillian talks to Liza...there should be a girls' alliance. "anything boys can do, girls can do better". Original. I was expecting them to sing "I am woman, hear me roar". Aneal has a talk with Her Highness Jillian and her Royal Consort, Emmett. He bring up the possibility that Jillian is being played. Jillian says, "Am I being played, (pause) Emmett?" Hmmm, interesting.

Marsha's reward for Peter and the HGs is a ski/hot-tub party with booze and macaroni - even for the have-nots. Suzette wears shorts. Yikes.

POV Ceremony: Gary Glitter saves himself and Jillian nominates Danielle as a replacement. Is she a pawn or will she get blind-sided? Good episode. The layers of alliances are being revealed. But we still know next to nothing about people such as Suzette, Andrew or AJ.

Current spoiler speculation is that Danielle will be the next HG evicted, based on the live feeds.

Episode 5: Thursday, March 7, 2013 - "The Aneal Deal"

The Week 1 eviction was just a kind of go-with-the-flow eviction. This week, we are going to see who's aligned with who, and who the "floaters" are.

So Aneal thinks there is a 90% chance he is out of the door. He's gotta do something quick. Meanwhile, Pete, Emmett and Alec meet in the supply room to discuss the girls' alliance that is forming - they have to nipple, I mean nip it in the bud.

Peter reveals that his alliance with Alec, called "The Shield" is half of the alliance with Tom and Emmett...called "The Quatro". Peter and Tom want to keep their advantage going and vote out Danielle. That way, Gary Glitter will have no one and Aneal will be eating out of their hands. They strike up the "Aneal Deal".

Danielle, Suzette and Gary are still believing that Aneal is out. Slowly, Danielle is starting to believe that something is up...but she does absolutely no campaigning. Bad move even for a real pawn. Gary is getting nervous about his alliance. he goes to Jillian in the HOH room - of course Emmett is there - and tells her that the HOH is supposed to be in charge..."are you in charge, Jillian?"

Last night, Gary rounded up the girls and had a fashion show. The guys watched as the girls and Gary walked the runway. Gary was in heaven. Alec drooled over Topaz.

Live Eviction Vote:

Alec                      Danielle
Tom                      Danielle
Topaz                   Danielle
Gary                                         Aneal
Suzette                                    Aneal
AJ                         Danielle
Liza                       Danielle
Talla                                         Aneal
Emmett                Danielle
Andrew                Danielle
Peter                    Danielle

Danielle is evicted 8 to 3. Lots of tears from Danielle, Gary, Talla and Suzette. On her exit, Danielle says " Everybody had me believing it would be a clean vote. I think I played my best". She says she doesn't feel so bad about saying bad things about certain people in the house. The best Diary Room goodbye was from Peter: "Danielle, you're the first unofficial victim of The Quatro".

HOH Competition: It's an opinion-based contest called "Popular Vote". The HGs have to answer how they think the majority will answer, and those who answer in the minority are out of the comp. For the most part, the HGs do pretty well, so in the end it comes down to a tiebreaker. They have to guess the number of liters of batter used in last weeks Have-Not challenge "Batter Up". It was 3,690 liters. Holy crap...what schmuck had to mix all that? Tom came closest with a guess of 1,700 and wins HOH.

So at the end of week 2, Jillian seems to be the worst HOH ever. Thinking with her vagina. I am in agreement with Marsha th Moose...I really like Peter. Seems to be the early front-runner. I like Gary, but unless he really starts campaigning harder for a girls' alliance, then he will soon be gone. Probable nominees for eviction this week will be among Gary, Suzette and Talla...or Aneal as a pawn. Tom is smart enough to save Gary for the replacement nomination.

Recap of Episode 3: Bimbo Down! Bimbo Down!

Look kids, stop it. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Nah. It's still fricking hilarious.

Tonight's episode starts with Shirtless Sean still looking for the love of his life while doing his workout. Yeah, that's right, Sean Lowe, Mr. Good Guy, Mr. Family Values himself. Strutting around like Sawyer in Lost. Sorry Sean, but you're no Josh Holloway. You're not even Matthew McConaughy. And we're supposed to believe this is the same guy that we saw in the first episode who was kinda prudish...too good for "50 Shades of Grey" girl? Seems like you're having a little too much fun now...you're not as judgmental.
